A magnetic card is a card-shaped magnetic recording medium that uses magnetic carriers to record characters and digital information for identification or other purposes. The magnetic card is made of high-strength, high-temperature-resistant plastic or paper-coated plastic. It is moisture-proof, wear-resistant, and has certain flexibility. It is easy to carry and relatively stable and reliable to use. For example, the bank card we use is the most common magnetic stripe card.

Magnetic cards are easy to use, cheap to manufacture, and extremely versatile. They can be used to make credit cards, bank cards, subway cards, bus cards, ticket cards, and telephone cards; electronic game cards, bus tickets, air tickets, and various transportation toll cards. We use magnetic cards on many occasions, such as eating in the cafeteria, shopping in the mall, taking the bus, making phone calls, entering the control area, etc., and so on.

Depending on the structure of the magnetosphere, it can be divided into two types: magnetic stripe cards and fully coated magnetic cards.

The magnetic stripe card consists of a plastic card and a magnetic strip attached to it. There are three magnetic tracks on the magnetic stripe to store information. ISO clearly regulates the relevant characteristics of magnetic stripe cards, which are described as follows:

l ISO7810 specifies the physical characteristics of the magnetic stripe card, including the card's material, structure and size. Usually the size of the magnetic stripe card is 85.5 X 54 X 0.76 (mm);

Magnetic stripe track

There are 3 tracks on the magnetic stripe. Track 1, track 2, and track 3 are read-write tracks, which can be read or written during use.

Track 1 can record numbers (0-9), letters (A-Z) and some other symbols (such as brackets, separators, etc.), and can record up to 79 numbers or letters.

The characters recorded in tracks 2 and 3 can only be numbers (0-9). Track 2 can record a maximum of 40 characters, and Track 3 can record a maximum of 107 characters.
