On November 10, Impinj announced the launch of the new Impinj M780 and M781 RAIN RFID tag chips, the first expansion memory chips in the Impinj M700 series. It is reported that the new tag chips will be used to help medical, food and industrial manufacturing companies to manage product shelf life and reduce waste in compliance with laws and regulations.
Impinj also announced a new Impinj Core3D antenna reference design portfolio that supports full range of reads on all Impinj M700 series chips, simplifying inlay and tag development and further improving system readability, accuracy and reliability.
The Impinj M780 chip features 496-bit EPC memory and 128-bit user memory, while the Impinj M781 chip includes 128-bit EPC memory and 512-bit user memory. These large memory formats support the capture of product attribute data such as lot/batch numbers, production dates, expiration dates and weights.
With a 50% increase in read range over Impinj's previous generation Monza 4 tag chips, the Impinj M780 and M781 significantly improve system readability, accuracy and reliability across a wide range of materials.
The Impinj M780 and M781 have a wealth of features, including
- Impinj Enhanced AutoTune adaptive tuning for improved readability and inventory accuracy on a wider range of materials.
- Impinj Enhanced Integra data diagnostics for self-testing of label quality conditions.
- Impinj Protected Mode for consumer privacy by providing where, when and who the tag is read.
- Impinj Unkillable Mode, which prevents accidental tag deletion when the intention is to use Impinj Protected Mode.
All Impinj M700 series tag chips are compatible with antennas, enabling fast design cycles. New products based on Impinj M780 and M781 tag chips are expected to be available in the coming months from leading Impinj RAIN RFID tag and inlay partners, including Confidex and Arizon.
The Impinj M780 and M781 tag chips are said to be available now, advancing the Impinj platform with the recently introduced Impinj Authenticity solution engine and Impinj M775 chip.
